Tom Brokaw sounded the alarm about the 2014 midterm election results on Tuesday night, quite literally.

As the veteran anchor was reporting on Mitch McConnell winning the Kentucky Senate race during MSNBC's live midterm election coverage, an alarm started ringing out.

After a few seconds, Brokaw realized that the alert was coming from his phone. Indeed, it did resemble the noise that comes blaring out of many people's iPhones early in the morning.

Brokaw pulled his phone out of his pocket, switched off the alarm and then pretended he was receiving an important call.

"Yes, I will remember to bring home the milk … Don't worry about it … And I'll feed the dog in the morning. Just sleep in," Brokaw said.
