WBTVG joining with Joost

Net deal sees sci-fi, classic channels

The Warner Bros. Television Group on Monday announced a partnership with Web TV service Joost that will bring some of WBTVG's sci-fi and classic television content to the Internet on an exclusive basis.

The channel WBTV: Sci-Fi Fix will feature such programs as "Aquaman" and "Babylon 5," while WBTV: Before They Were Mega Stars will spotlight television shows from the past that feature today's stars of the big screen, including Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst and Samuel L. Jackson.

The creation of both channels, which are scheduled for launch this month, marks the first time WBTVG has launched Warner Bros.-branded content online.

"We believe the advertiser-supported model for classic, current and original programming is a significant and critical segment of the long-term future of digital distribution," WBTVG president Bruce Rosenblum said. "The community, flexibility and wide array of programming offered by Joost are sure to make it a must destination for any TV enthusiast."

Also Monday, Joost announced a deal with online brand Heavy.com that will make its young male-oriented content available online in three categories: Heavy Animation, Heavy Comedy and Heavy Girls.

Both content partnerships join Joost's previous collaborations announced this month with Turner Broadcasting, Sony Pictures Television and the NHL. Those partnerships followed the news of collaborations with Viacom Inc. and Warner Music Group.
