WE tv rolls out royal slate

WE tv is making some royal additions to its programming slate.

The network is readying seven new and acquired series for its royally themed programming, including Season 2 of "American Princess" and a handful of Princess Diana-inspired specials.

"With this new slate of royal programming, the network is building on the success we saw with the first season of 'American Princess' and continuing its momentum to provide royal-related content that entertains and resonates with our viewers," WE tv executive vp and GM Kim Martin said.

The slate will include the return of "American Princess" on Sunday, which follows 20 wannabe princesses through challenges to prove their nobility, and the October premiere of "Australian Princess," in which ordinary women compete for an extraordinary British royal title.

Princess Diana specials include the Psychology News-produced documentary, "Diana — the Night She Died," premiering Aug. 31; "Diana Revealed," a two-hour special produced by NBC News and "The Curse of Diana's Dresses," the true stories of what happened to the people who bought the princess' auctioned dresses.

Other specials include "Royal Vacation Homes" in January and "How to Marry a Prince" in February, which reveals the necessary steps to achieving nobility through matrimony.

The announcement comes in conjunction with WE tv's celebration of "The People's Princess," featuring an eBay auction of one of Diana's gowns worth more than $300,000. Proceeds will benefit America's Promise Alliance, a charity for disadvantaged children.
