WE tv Taps Cheryl Bloch to Lead New Scripted Unit
The Emmy-winning "Northern Exposure" producer will serve as senior vp scripted programming.
WE tv is continuing its push into scripted fare, tapping Cheryl Bloch to be its first senior vp scripted programming.
The executive, an Emmy and Golden Globe winner for her work on Northern Exposure, most recently served as a senior consultant for the AMC Networks-owned cable channel.
In her new role, Bloch will be tasked with helping the female-skewing network identify and build its initial slate of scripted projects for production and development. She'll report to WE tv president and GM Marc Juris and be based out of the cabler's Santa Monica office.
"She has been instrumental in leveraging her broad industry relationships and background to build the network's initial scripted development slate, and I am looking forward to working together to deliver unique and compelling scripted shows to WE tv viewers," Juris said.
Bloch was key in greenlighting WE tv's first scripted series, The Divide, which hails from exec producers Richard LaGravenese and Tony Goldwyn and first was developed for AMC. The series will premiere in 2014.
WE tv's current scripted development slate includes All American Woman, originally developed at NBCUniversal-owned Bravo, Dirty and Unpredictable (previously called Headhunters).
Before working with WE tv, Bloch was senior vp at Jennilind Productions where she developed comedy and drama projects with Billy Crystal under his overall deal with HBO. She is a former vp drama development at Fox, where she developed 24 and Boston Public, among others. Before that, she was senior vp current programming at Universal Studios. Her credits also include I'll Fly Away and A Year in the Life Of, as well as Amazing Stories.
