'This Week' bests 'Meet the Press'

Barack Obama gives ABC show a slight lead

NEW YORK -- An interview with President-elect Barack Obama handed ABC's "This Week With George Stephanopoulos" its first win over NBC's "Meet the Press" since June 1999.

"This Week" eked out a slim lead -- 40,000 viewers -- against "Meet the Press," for Sunday's show where Stephanopoulos sat down with Obama. "This Week" averaged 4.3 million viewers to the 4.3 million for "Meet the Press," Nielsen said Thursday.

It wasn't all roses for "This Week," however. "Meet the Press" beat "This Week" in the adults 25-54 demographic, with 1.5 million viewers compared with ABC's 1.4 million. CBS' "Face the Nation" came in third with 3 million viewers and 1 million viewers; "Fox News Sunday" averaged 1.8 million viewers, including 630,000 adults 25-54.
