Weezer Set to Perform at the NHL Winter Classic (Exclusive)
The L.A. rockers will play on New Year's Day at Notre Dame Stadium during the Chicago Blackhawks-Boston Bruins game.
Say it's so: Weezer will perform at the NHL Winter Classic.
The Grammy-winning Los Angeles rockers are set to take the stage at Notre Dame Stadium during the first intermission of the league's showcase New Year's Day event, which this time around features the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins on an outdoor rink.
As is customary, the teams will sport new sweaters for the special occasion, so surely Weezer — comprised of Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell and Scott Shriner — will break out "Undone (The Sweater Song)" during their set in South Bend, Indiana.
Formed in 1992, Weezer has sold 10 million albums in the U.S. and more than 35 million records worldwide on the strength of that and other hits including "Buddy Holly," "Say It Ain't So," "El Scorcho," "Hash Pipe," "Island in the Sun," "Beverly Hills" and "Pork and Beans."
Following Grammy-nominated releases in 2016 (The White Album) and '17 (Pacific Daydream) and sold-out amphitheater tours with Panic! At the Disco in 2016 and Pixies this year, Weezer released a cover of Toto's 1983 hit "Africa," which topped Billboard's Rock Airplay chart in August.
The 11th edition of the Winter Classic will be broadcast live on NBC, Sportsnet and TVA Sports starting at 1 p.m. ET. Additional performers will be announced in the days ahead.
