The Weinstein Company to Distribute Quentin Tarantino's 'The Hateful Eight'
The film is set to be released in the fall of 2015
The Weinstein Company is set to distribute Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, it was announced on Wednesday.
Tarantino's post-Civil War western will begin filming in January and is set to be released in the U.S. in the fall of 2015.
The Weinsteins, first at Miramax and now at The Weinstein Company, have collaborated on all of Tarantino's films, from Reservoir Dogs through Django Unchained.
At this year's Comic-Con, Tarantino revealed that he would proceed on The Hateful Eight despite putting his plans on hold earlier this year after the script was leaked online and he was embroiled in a legal fight with Gawker over the leak, which ended with him withdrawing the suit in May.
In April, he staged a star-studded reading of the script featuring Bruce Dern, Kurt Russell, Amber Tamblyn, Michael Madsen, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth and Samuel L. Jackson. At the time, The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy said that Tarantino intended to shoot the film next winter.
McCarthy also said Jackson would "have a field day" with the material onscreen.
Set in snowy Wyoming a few years after the Civil War, The Hateful Eight, at least at the time of the script read, focuses on the tension among a group of people trapped after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route. The group includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier and a female prisoner in a saloon.
Harvey and Bob Weinstein said in a statement, "We are incredibly excited to begin production on The Hateful Eight, as we know this picture will be as innovative, brash and of course fun as all Quentin projects prior. There is, quite simply, no other filmmaker like him, and we are as proud as ever to continue this partnership that started over 20 years ago."
The movie will be shot on 65mm film and have the widest 70mm film release in more than 20 years, The Weinstein Company announced.
Richard Gladstein, Stacey Sher and Shannon McIntosh will produce The Hateful Eight, with the Weinstein brothers and G. Mac Brown executive producing.
The Weinstein Company earlier indicated they were involved in the project when the company tweeted the first poster for the project at the end of July.
