Weinstein Co. Pulls Three Upcoming Films From Release Schedule
'The War With Grandpa,' 'Mary Magdalene' and 'The Upside' were all pulled from the schedule.
The Weinstein Co. has pulled three films from its release schedule: The War With Grandpa, Mary Magdalene and The Upside.
The War With Grandpa, which stars Robert De Niro, Uma Thurman and Jane Seymour, tells the story of a young boy who battles his grandfather when he is forced to share a room with him. It was slated for release on Feb. 23. The film is no stranger to release-date changes, having originally been scheduled for April 21, 2017, before being pushed to October and then to the February date. The family comedy also shifted production last-minute from Canada to Georgia back in March 2017.
Mary Magdalene, the Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix starrer that follows the eponymous biblical figure, was scheduled for release on March 30, after being pushed back from a Nov. 24, 2017, date.
The Upside, meanwhile, was on the calendar for a March 9 release. The comedy stars Nicole Kidman, Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston and is the English-language remake of the 2011 French hit comedy The Intouchables.
Since October, The New York Times' and The New Yorker's exposés charging TWC co-founder Harvey Weinstein with decades' worth of sexual assault and harassment charges have left the future of the company in question. Weinstein was terminated from TWC, although he remains a shareholder.
TWC already previously postponed several upcoming releases, such as the period drama The Current War, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
