West End awaits stars in 'Godot'

"X-Men" foes Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are set to star in a stage production of the Samuel Beckett classic "Waiting for Godot" at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket in the spring.

Sean Mathias, the Theatre Royal's artistic director for 2009, will direct the production, which will run April 30-June 28 following a tour of provincial U.K. cities.

"Godot," which premiered in 1953 in Paris and in 1955 in London, follows two tramps over two days as they contemplate life while waiting for the mysterious Godot to show up. Beckett won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969. (partialdiff)
