WGA pencils in Didion for Burkey Award

Author Joan Didion will receive the WGA East's Evelyn F. Burkey Award for contributions to the writing field.

Didion, who has won the National Book Award and numerous other writing laurels over the years, will be feted Feb. 11 at the 59th annual WGA Awards in New York. Winners in various categories will be announced at the gala, set for the Millennium Broadway Hotel's Hudson Theatre. A simultaneous ceremony is set for the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City.

The author of novels and nonfiction books including, most recently, "The Year of Magical Thinking," Didion joins such previous Burkey Award winners as Martin Scorsese, Sidney Lumet and Art Buchwald. The award is presented annually "in recognition of contributions that have brought honor and dignity to writers everywhere."
