WGAE-ABC News deal is OK'd

NEW YORK -- ABC News employees have ratified a WGA East contract, the guild announced.

Seventy-nine% of the union members approved the contract in voting Thursday and Friday. The three-year contract takes effect immediately, calling for annual 3.5% raises and a $3,700 bonus for each full-time employee for the dropping of a National Labor Relations Board complaint against ABC.

Included are 250 newswriters, editors, desk assistants and others in New York and Washington. It's one of two ABC contracts that have been settled in recent weeks.

The WGAE remains locked in battle with the studios over the big writers contract as well as a fight against CBS News.
