'White Ribbon' sweeps Austrian awards

Haneke film nabs four Romys; Christoph Waltz also honored

COLOGNE, Germany -- Austrian natives Christoph Waltz and Michael Haneke were the hometown heroes at this year's Austrian Film Awards, the Romys, held this weekend.

Oscar winner Waltz added the Austrian best actor title to his trophy case and Haneke's "The White Ribbon" went home with four Romys including ones for Best Picture and Best Director.

"The White Ribbon" is expected to sweep Germany's top honors, the Lola awards, this Friday, crowning what has been a phenomenal run for the film. Waltz, however, has not been nominated as "Inglourious Basterds" does not qualify as sufficiently German under the Lola rules.
