Why Rooney Mara Is Still Rocking Her 'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' Look

If you've wondered why the actress hasn't dumped her Lisbeth Salander coal black hair, bleached eyebrows and piercings, here's the reason: two more "Girl" movies shot back-to-back.

Well, now we know why The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara hasn't made any attempt to grow out her Lisbeth Salander jet black chopped punk hairdo. On Saturday, director David Fincher explained that he plans to shoot the final books in the Millennium Trilogy -- The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest -- back-to-back .

"The second two books are very much one story and it doesn't seem prudent to me to go to Sweden for a year," said the filmmaker. Taking a break in between the two would mean, in his words: "Come back for a year. Put out the second one. Go to Sweden for a year. Come back for a year."

And then there's Mara. Fincher added,  "I don't think Rooney [Mara] wants to be doing this four years from now. So I think that would be crazy especially given the sense that it's really one story that's kind of bifurcated in the middle."

Mara is signed on for the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, but Sony has to greenlight the sequels depending on the performance of the first installment, out Wednesday.

Will he make Dragon Tattoo a franchise, meaning more movies not from books written by the late Stieg Larsson?

"Do I want to see a sequel for this? I would be happy for everyone involved as that would mean a lot of people went to see it and enjoy it. Do I need to see a sequel? No, there's a little bit of an emotional cliffhanger at the end, but the story is complete."

Bet Mara will be happy to hear that. But inhabiting Lisbeth Salander's dark and troubled persona for another year of her life can't be good. She's already started dressing like Salander in real life, even wearing the punky street wear H&M collection that her character inspired. We think this Girl deserves combat pay.

If they give her a break in the shoot, you'll probably still see Rooney looking like Lisbeth at the MTV Movie Awards next year. Girl has already made MTV's Top Ten best movies of the year list.
