Wide Pictures snaps up DVD distributor

Acquires 70% of Tribanda Pictures

MADRID -- Luis de Val's newly launched mainstream distribution house Wide Pictures has acquired 70% of DVD distributor Tribanda Pictures, Wide said Tuesday.

The move sees De Val, who recently left his post at the top of Spanish distribution house Manga Films, take control of Tribanda -- owned by Manga's former head of DVD sales and international marketing Ferran Almeda and Ana Vicens, respectively.

Tribanda is scheduled to release DVDs of some of Spain's hottest classic titles from Luis Garcia Berlanga and Luis Bunuel as well as a handful of recent television series.

Tribanda also owns the DVD rights for two upcoming projects by Stan Lee, though the names of the titles were not yet available.

"It's a pleasure to work with two people with such experience and professionalism as Ferran Almeda and Ana Vicents in this DVD project," De Val said. "I'm sure that Tribanda Pictures will quickly become one of the pillars of the sector."
