He will play all the positions in one day during spring training in an homage to former big-league shortstop Bert Campaneris.

Will Ferrell will play every position in five spring training games on Thursday for HBO's upcoming special Ferrell Takes the Field.

The comedian will travel via helicopter to some of the games, Bob Nightengale announced Tuesday via Twitter. Charities such as Stand Up to Cancer and Cancer for College will benefit, with memorabilia from the games to be auctioned off.

The Funny or Die production will document Ferrell for the cancer awareness special set to air this year as he suits up in the Phoenix-area games, playing all the positions, HBO announced Wednesday. Some of the Cactus League teams switched their game times so the actor — who has played a NASCAR driver, ice dancer and pro basketball player on the screen — could pull this off. He'll play for both teams in each game.

Ferrell will play for the Los Angles Dodgers and Angels, the Chicago Cubs and White Sox, the San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds.

"The Dodgers are excited to join MLB in this creative project that involves one of the Dodgers' most beloved fans, Will Ferrell," executive vp and chief marketing officer Lon Rosen said in a statement.

Added Padres manager Bud Black: “I look forward to meeting Will and penciling him in to the lineup.”

Ferrell, 47, also is honoring former big-league shortstop Bert Campaneris, who played all nine positions for the Kansas City Athletics in a game against the California Angels in September 1965. The Cuban-born Campaneris, 73, is expected to be there for Ferrell's stunt.
