Will Ferrell to Revive 'Anchorman' Character With 'Ron Burgundy Podcast'

The Funny or Die-produced podcast will launch on the iHeartRadio Podcast Network in early 2019.

Will Ferrell is bringing his Anchorman character Ron Burgundy out of retirement for a new podcast.

The Ron Burgundy Podcast will launch on the iHeartRadio Podcast Network in early 2019. Co-produced by Funny or Die and iHeartRadio, the show has already been given a two-season, 12-episode order.

The news was announced Monday on the @BurgundyPodcast Twitter handle, where the legendary anchorman got into a fight with CNN's Don Lemon.

"To be honest, we don't want to do this podcast and we just want to get this announcement over with as soon as possible," added iHeartPodcast Network president Conal Byrne. "Ron quite literally forced us into making this podcast with him, first calling us more than one hundred times in a single day and then proceeding to actually show up at our doorstep and physically force himself into our studios. We do hope the podcast is well-received, but in the meantime, we hope by agreeing to do the announcement he will stay away."

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy bowed in 2004 and was followed by a 2013 sequel, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Ferrell stars in the film franchise alongside Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner and Fred Willard.

A trailer for The Ron Burgundy Podcast will be available in the coming months. Excerpts from the show will be distributed across iHeartRadio broadcast radio stations and via social media.
