Will named new host of German talker

COLOGNE, Germany -- Anne Will has been named to replace Sabine Christiansen as host of Germany's top-rated nightly talk show, ending a months-long debate at German pubcaster ARD.

Will, currently host of ARD's nightly "Tagesthemen" newscast, takes over this fall from Christiansen, who is leaving to devote more time to hosting CNBC's "Global Players."

Guenter Jauch, Germany's best-known TV host and presenter of top-rated game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" on commercial channel RTL was originally slated to replace Christiansen.

That deal fell apart after leading executives at ARD criticized Jauch's plan to keep his RTL job as well as Jauch's image as a corporate pitchman for products ranging from state lotteries to mail-order catalogs.

Last month Jauch said he did not want the job (HR 1/12), kicking off a search for a replacement.
