Will Yun Lee Talks Losing 30 Pounds for 'Altered Carbon'

"I stopped eating all the stuff I liked to eat for about seven weeks," Lee told THR.

Will Yun Lee sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss Netflix’s sci-fi blockbuster Altered Carbon, and how he had to drop 30 pounds for his role of Takeshi Kovacs.

Lee talked about meeting with show creator Laeta Kalogridis while she was developing the show, saying, "I visited her when she was in the writers room and saw the walls were just covered with hundreds of story art and I was like, 'This is unbelievable.' And she mentioned this character, but at the time, I was also on a different show and I had gained 30 pounds for that show, so that was a whole different ball of wax trying to get that off for this show."

According to the actor, having the drop the weight for Altered Carbon in a short period of time was "the hardest thing about this show."

Recalling his conversation with Kalogridis about the role, he said, "I got a text message from Laeta and she said, 'Look I've been thinking about this character for you. How fast can you get in shape?'"

Lee was given "five weeks" to reach his goal, he said. "I was doing three-a-days and a nutritionist and all that stuff," he said. "I stopped eating all the stuff I liked to eat for about seven weeks."

Fans of Altered Carbon are still waiting to see if the show will have a second season, and according to Lee, he's just as in the dark as everyone else.

"I actually have nothing for you," he told THR. "Just when you think you get bits and pieces, you realize they're just bits and pieces of rumors."
