Wilshire Theatre to become Saban Theatre

$5 million donation to help with renovations

NEW YORK -- The venerable Wilshire Theatre Beverly Hills will be renamed Saban Theatre as it uses a new lead donation of $5 million from Cheryl and Haim Saban for the continuing restoration of the L.A. landmark.

The Beverly Hills Performing Arts Center announced the donation Friday, saying it will be used to renovate the art deco theater's orchestra and proscenium and to refurbish its marquee.

"Their donation and commitment to our organization will ensure that the historic Wilshire Theatre Beverly Hills remains a celebrated center for the performing arts in Los Angeles," said BHPAC president Rabbi David Baron about the Sabans. Industry veteran and investor Haim Saban is chairman and CEO of Saban Capital Group.

The Wilshire Theatre hosts Broadway performances, films and comedy shows, among other things, and also is home to the Temple of the Arts synagogue.
