NEW YORK -- Sunday's Wimbledon finals delivered the best ratings for NBC since 2004.Preliminary estimates released Monday by Nielsen Media Research showed the six-hour match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal averaged a 3.2 overnight household rating/9 share.
That was the best since Federer played Andy Roddick in 2004 when it averaged a 3.6/10 in the same overnight household ratings. It was also up 10% compared to a year ago when Federer-Nadal averaged a 2.9/8 in the same time period.
Final viewership data will be released Tuesday.
Saturday's Venus Williams-Marion Bartoli match, which Williams won, was up 27% to 2.8/8 over last year.
The top metered markets for the Federer-Nadal final were West Palm Beach (7.0/17) and Richmond, Va. (5.8/12). Neither New York nor Los Angeles were in the top 10 metered markets.
