BERLIN -- Irish director David O'Reilly's "Please Say Something" has won the Golden Bear for best short film at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival.

The Silver Bear went to the short "Jade" from Brit director Daniel Elliot. A short with a title almost longer than its running time: "Die Leiden des Herrn Karpf. Der Geburtstag" (The Suffering of Herr Karpf. The Birthday) from director Lola Randl was picked to be the Berlinale's short film nominee for this year's European Film Awards.

The members of the 2009 International short film jury, Khavn de la Cruz, Arta Dobroshi and Lars Henrik Gass announced the winners Wednesday. The full-length winners of the 59th Berlinale will be announced Saturday.
