'My Winnipeg' wins Toronto critics award

Guy Maddin picks up $10,000 prize for documentary

TORONTO -- Guy Maddin's hometown tribute documentary "My Winnipeg" on Tuesday night earned the 2008 best Canadian film award from the Toronto Film Critics Assn.

Maddin beat out Stephane Lafleur's "Continental: A Film Without Guns" and Yung Chang's "Up the Yangtze," a documentary about the Three Gorges Dam in China, to snag the trophy and a $10,000 cash prize.

"My Winnipeg" won the best Canadian feature award at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2006.
