WME Signs Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton
The British driver won BBC Sports Personality of the Year on Sunday
Reigning Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has signed with WME, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Once dubbed the Tiger Woods of motor sports, Hamilton, whose father is of Grenadian descent, burst onto the racing scene in 2007, winning his first pole and race in that debut season and at one point becoming, at 22, the youngest driver to lead the points standings for the world championship. A year later he clinched that title, setting an age record in doing so, and repeated the feat last month in Abu Dhabi.
The two-time world champ’s 33 career wins are the best of any British driver in Formula One history. A considerable celebrity in his sport as well as in his native U.K. (he has dated Nicole Scherzinger since 2007), Hamilton is looking to expand his popularity, and that of Formula One’s, by linking up with WME, who will help him pursue opportunities in his other varied interests, which include music, fashion and film.
