WME taps John Buzzetti as theater head

Most recently oversaw the theater department at Gersh

John Buzzetti, the longtime head of Gersh's theater department, has joined WME to lead its theater unit.

Buzzetti clients include David Lindsay-Abaire ("Rabbit Hole"), Lin-Manuel Miranda ("In the Heights"), Robert Lopez ("Avenue Q") and Tom Kitt ("Next to Normal"), all of whom will be joining him at WME.

The move bolsters WME's already strong theater division, which includes such players such as Edward Albee ("Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf"), Jerry Herman ("La Cage aux Folles"), Kenny Leon ("A Raisin in the Sun"), Des McAnuff ("Jersey Boys") and Jerry Zaks ("A Bronx Tale").

Buzzetti began his career with the Ambrosio-Mortimer Agency in 1996 and joined Gersh two years later, becoming a partner and head of theater.

"With a stellar track record for developing young artists and representation of groundbreaking musicals such as 'Avenue Q,' 'In the Heights' and 'Next to Normal,' John is responsible for some of today's most celebrated talent," WME said in a statement. "There is no one better to carry on WME's commitment to the theater than John."
