Wolfgang Puck and Top LA Chefs Raise More Than $75,000 for a Hurricane-Relief Dinner

Nineteen LA chefs teamed up for the Global Giving Fund and those affected by the recent hurricanes at the Pop-Up for a Purpose Event #LACHEFSUNITE.

On Oct. 4, famed chef Wolfgang Puck led a team of cuisiniers who created small plates on the front lawn of Hotel Bel-Air. The one-night-only event brought out some of L.A.’s most notable chefs — Roy Choi, Ray Garcia and Nancy Silverton all served dishes — in order to help those affected by the recent natural disasters.

Nearly 200 guests, including foodie fans and philanthropists such as Destination Happiness travel guru Melissa Schwartz, paid $500 a head to walk around to the chef's tables and sample menu items like Jeremy Fox’s (Rustic Canyon) smoked pork loin, Walter Manzke's (Republique) pork belly with caviar and Suzanne Goin’s (Lucques) bittersweet chocolate torta. All proceeds will benefit the Global Giving Fund.

“With the recent tragedies happening across the globe, it was important to my team and I that we give back in a meaningful and impactful way,” said Puck ahead of the dinner. “My chef at Hotel Bel-Air, Hugo Bolanos had the great idea of bringing the L.A. chef community together to cook a benefit dinner, so we are doing exactly that. We look forward to uniting the community of Los Angeles in order to show our support for those who need it most.”

Private dining experiences from all the chefs' restaurants (think: four-course Ink.Well dinner and private dinner at your residence by Wexler's Deli) and overnight stays at Hotel Bel-Air and The Beverly Hills Hotel were a hit with attendees during the Billy Harris-hosted live and silent auctions.

This is not the only foodie-focused initiative looking to bring relief to those affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

L.A. Loves Puerto Rico is a weeklong event where more than 90 top Los Angeles chefs, bartenders, bakers and restaurateurs will come together to serve up food and drinks inspired by the island.

Between Oct. 7-14, foodies can stop by participating restaurants across L.A. like hot spots Felix, Kali, Spartina and Redbird for specialty dishes or grab a cocktail from Little Flower and The Wellesbourne — all proceeds from the specials will be donated to Unidos Por Puerto Rico.
