Wolpert tapped for WWI tale

TORONTO -- Canadian producer Pacific Empire Prods. on Monday said that screenwriter Jay Wolpert has signed on to adapt the First World War novel "A Century of November" for the big screen.

Vancouver-based Pacific Empire said Wolpert ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl") has agreed to pen a script based on W.D. Wetherell's 2004 historical novel about a Canadian father who learns that his only son has been killed on a French battlefield near the Belgian border in 1918. He then travels across the Atlantic to witness firsthand where his son fell.

Patrick Stark and Nicolas Awde, who optioned "A Century of November" in late 2005, will co-produce the war-themed drama for Pacific Empire Prods.
