Working Title revs up Ayrton Senna doc

Asif Kapadia in the driving seat to direct

LONDON -- Working Title Films is gearing up for a documentary feature detailing the life and times of Brazilian motor racing legend Ayrton Senna.

The British production house, which has a deal with Universal Pictures, has put Asif Kapadia in the driving seat to direct from a script penned by Manish Pandey.

The movie will shoot from May this year for Working Title and Midfield Films and will be produced by James Gay-Rees ("Long Time Dead") and WT co-chairman Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. Executive producer credit garlands will go to Kevin Macdonald ("Touching The Void) and Pandey.

Spanning Senna’s years as a Formula One racing driver from 1984 to his untimely death at the age of 34 in a race a decade later, the documentary will explore the life and work of the triple world champion.

The picture has backing from Senna's family, Formula One Management and the Ayrton Senna Institute, a charitable foundation established after his death to provide educational opportunities to deprived Brazilian children.
