Works Media Group launches TV division

Hires former studio sales exec Michael Oesterlin

LONDON -- AIM-listed production, sales and financing outfit the Works Media Group said Thursday it is launching a television division and has brought in former studio sales exec Michael Oesterlin as a consultant to spearhead the efforts.

Oesterlin will have oversight of acquisitions, strategy and the sale of new and library titles for television and home entertainment. Additionally, Balvinder Gill, ex-Alchemy TV sales exec, has been appointed to the team.

The television division will be part of the Group's theatrical sales and finance arm The Works International.

The Works International managing director Carl Clifton said: "This year we will be attending MIPTV for the first time in some years. Michael [Oesterlin] coming on board allows us to be more strategic in the exploitation of our rights and to maximize the revenues of our films, which only benefits our filmmakers."

The division is already ramping up its sales slate, taking on international repping to "The Canyon," released in the U.S. by Magnolia and "Starsuckers," a title which unspooled during last year's London Film Festival.
