The Works has sense of porpoise

U.K. label inks three deals for 'The Cove'

More Cannes coverage

CANNES -- U.K. sales and finance label the Works has inked a trio of deals for dolphin documentary "The Cove."

Startup distributor Drei Freunde has netted German rights while Madman Entertainment has caught the film for Australia and New Zealand.

Separately, Canada will see it via a deal with Maple Pictures.

The Works, which invested in the film and are selling it worldwide outside North America and Japan, is screening it here in the Marche du Film.

Directed by Louie Psihoyos, co-founder of the Ocean Preservation Society, the film follows Richard O'Barry, an internationally recognized authority on dolphin training, and a high-tech dive team on a mission to discover the truth about the international dolphin trade as practiced in Taji, Japan.

It will be released in the U.S. in July through Roadside and Lionsgate.
