The growing popularity of tele-novelas worldwide is reflected in a decision by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to establish a separate category for the genre. The first International Emmy Award for Telenovelas will be presented at the International Emmy Awards Gala on Nov. 24 in New York. The award will be for telenovelas produced and initially aired outside the U.S. "The telenovela genre has grown into a global phenomenon which has inspired hit shows in Europe, Asia and North America as well as Latin America," Academy president and CEO Bruce Paisner said.
TORONTO — Postproduction giant Deluxe Entertainment Services Group on Monday said it will relocate its downtown Toronto facility in 2010 to FilmPort, the city's upcoming mega-studio. Deluxe will become FilmPort's first permanent tenant when it occupies an 80,000-square-foot office building scheduled to open in two years. Ken Ferguson, president of Toronto Film Studios, which is building FilmPort, said the planned Deluxe facility will complement the film and TV shoots expected to fill the studio's soundstages.
ROME — Italy's Donatello Awards will take place April 18 and return — after a one-year hiatus — to the Auditorium della Concillazione. The date moves Italy's premiere cinema awards ceremony slightly closer to the Oscars than normal. Nominees for the awards will be an-nounced March 20. Last year's ceremony took place at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, best known as the home of the 3-year-old RomaCinemaFest.
