U.K.-based helmer Anthony Minghella will serve as president of the international jury for the 11th annual Shanghai International Film Festival. SIFF managing director Tang Lijun made the announcement over the weekend at the Berlinale and said that the June 14-22 festival is looking to strengthen the market function of the event through a co-production program and hopes to introduce more young directors from China and Asia to the world through its CFPC and new talent section.

Digital upgrade

LONDON — The U.K.'s Five channel has expanded its digital media team and named its first digital controller as it ramps up its focus on online and VOD services. Three senior producers also have been hired to oversee the rebuilding and relaunching of Five Web sites, including and several yet-unnamed sites likely to revolve around Five digital channels Five Life and Five US. Chris Kerwin will take the new digital controller post, while Scott Jeffrey will become VOD editor, overseeing a revamp of the Five Download service.

Moretti in focus

ROME — The Locarno Film Festival's 61st edition will feature a retrospective of Italian auteur Nanni Moretti, organizers said Monday. The festival will screen a comprehensive selection of the five-time Palme d'Or nominee's feature films, shorts and documentaries, highlighting his prolific career as a director, writer, producer and actor. Though the festival did not release a full list of titles, it did say that the retrospective will include the major bookends of a 30-year career that includes 1976 comedy "Io Sono un Autarchio" (I Am Self Sufficient) and the Silvio Berlusconi-based drama "Il Caimano" (The Caiman).
