Posner goes YaYa!

MADRID — Enrique Posner, former general manager at Warner Bros. Intl. Espana, on Monday launched production company YaYa! Films with an initial slate of three English-language features. The shingle will co-produce its first slate with Posner's partners in sales outfit 6 Sales, Galba Prods. and animation specialists Perro Verde Films. YaYa!'s first project is the $10 million, CG-animated "The Missing Lynx," about a billionaire conservationist who hires a wacky hunter to save animals in a new Noah's Ark, to be followed by romantic comedy "How To" and a musical starring Cristina Llorente.

Pathe purchases

LONDON — French-owned U.K. distribution arm Pathe Distribution has said bonjour to UGC Films U.K., snapping up the label and its back catalog of films for an undisclosed sum. The deal sees Pathe take control of a slew of top-flight foreign-language titles including German pic "Good Bye Lenin!" and French titles "8 Women" and "Swimming Pool." Pathe said the library will complement Pathe's existing roster of titles, which include everything from "Chicken Run" to "The Queen."

Lead-in the real 'Deal'

TORONTO — Canadian broadcaster CanWest Media Works Inc. on Monday said it will launch the Canadian version of Endemol USA's "Deal or No Deal" immediately after its telecast of the Super Bowl. Toronto-based CanWest plans to air five episodes of "Deal or No Deal Canada," hosted by Howie Mandel, as part of a deal with Endemol USA and Toronto-based Insight Prods., which will produce the homegrown series. The NFL championship game was the third most-watched program on Canadian TV last year, with 4.3 million viewers.
