The WGA and AMPTP studio alliance meet next week, and the week after, the guild has set member meetings and online balloting.

In an email to members Monday night, the Writers Guild announced dates for member meetings and balloting on a strike authorization vote, all of which will take place after the guild and the studios’ negotiating arm, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, meets for a week of further talks starting next Monday, April 10, and running through April 14.

The following week, there will be member meetings in Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 18, and Wednesday, April 19, and in New York on April 19. The online strike authorization vote will start on April 19 and conclude on Monday, April 24.

The guild said that members eligible to vote would receive a separate email with more specific voting instructions and additional meeting details, including a link to RSVP. The 2007 strike authorization vote took 18 days via mailed ballots and garnered more than 90 percent support.

This year, the parties appear to be some distance apart in their positions on such issues as relief for middle-class writers, shoring up the health plan, solidifying the pension plan’s foundation, and other matters.
