Writing duo tackling 'Tingler'

Columbia Pictures has tapped Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to pen a Page One rewrite of its horror remake "The Tingler." Neal Moritz is producing through his Sony-based Original Film shingle.

Based on the 1959 Vincent Price classic, the film centers on a scientist, who in the search for a medical cure for fear, unleashes the Tingler, an entity that kills its victims with fear. Greg Pace wrote an earlier draft.

Sony's Elizabeth Cantillon and Doug Belgrad are overseeing "Tingler" for the studio.

Partners Melton and Dunstan launched their writing careers after they were named winning scribes on the 2004-05 season of "Project Greenlight." They wrote last year's supernatural monster pic "Feast" for Dimension Films.

Dunstan also is attached to direct Dimension's horror film "Midnight Man," which is based on a pitch by the writing team. They also sold their teen horror pilot "The Vineyard" to Fox Broadcasting Co.

Melton and Dunstan are repped by APA, Underground Films' Trevor Engelson and Will Lowery and attorney Dave Feldman.
