Wyclef Jean not giving up presidential bid

Says he was unfairly disqualified from Haiti election

Wyclef Jean said he is not giving up his bid for the Haitian presidency, despite not being on the country's list of approved candidates for the election.

The hip-hop star told the Associated Press that he is planning to try to get the courts to overturn a decision that disqualified him from the race for not meeting the legal requirements to run.

Jean said his lawyers are going to file an appeal with the national electoral dispute office, adding that he has a document "which shows everything is correct" and that he and his aides "feel that what is going on here has everything to do with Haitian politics."

An elections board spokesman said that as of Sunday afternoon, he had not seen any paperwork from the candidate indicating an appeal, but he declined further comment.
