HONG KONG -- The presentation of a lifetime achievement award to Yoji Yamada and the Edward Yang new talent award to Yuya Ishii will highlight this year's Asian Film Awards, the Hong Kong International Film Festival announced Wednesday.

Yamada's award coincides with the 40th anniversary of the birth of Tora-san, the character he immortalized in his "It's Tough Being a Man" series.

Ishii's feature-film debut, "Bare-Assed Japan," which looks at suburban youth in modern day Japan, received strong reviews. His award will be presented by Yang's widow, famed pianist Kaili Peng.

Organized by the HKIFF society and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the AFA is one of the largest film awards ceremonies in Asia.

AFA-nominated films screening at the HKIFF include the "Lust, Caution," "Mad Detective," "The Home Song Stories," "Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame" and the Hong Kong premiere of the international version of "The Sun Also Rises."
