Shopping the Carpet: Yara Shahidi Is Ready for Spring in This Rosie Assoulin Crop Top
Pretty in pleats.
The Ensemble: A buttoned-up, cinch tie gold crop top from Rosie Assoulin's spring 2018 collection, styled with a pleated, multi-color cameo print skirt, also from the designer's spring collection.
The Wearer: Harvard-bound style icon and Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi.
The Event: The Hollywood Reporter's 8th Annual Power Stylist dinner on Tuesday night, where Shahidi celebrated her own stylist, Jason Bolden, who made the list of Hollywood's top 25 image makers. "There's never been a situation in which I felt like the dress was wearing me," said Shahidi of the numerous ensembles Bolden has found for her. The dinner was held at Lenny Kravitz's Hollywood abode.
Why It Matters: With this ensemble, not only did Shahidi flaunt the skills of her style partner in crime, Mr. Bolden, but she also made us long for the warmer days of spring. (In case you hadn't heard, while the 18-year-old was showing off her abs in Los Angeles, the East Coast was bracing for another snowstorm.) Can you will warmer temperatures into existence by wearing a crop top? Fingers crossed.
The look also showcases Assoulin's versatility as a designer who can float seamlessly between daytime and red-carpet-ready pieces. From her sexy, playful take on the classic pleated skirt and button-down ensemble to sparkly, low-cut numbers (like the one worn by Tracee Ellis Ross at the MTV Movie Awards), Assoulin has struck a sweet spot, scoring regular red-carpet exposure while simultaneously creating looks that shoppers can see themselves wearing on the day-to-day.
