'Yuppi Du' off Venice schedule

No replacement screening set yet

LOCARNO, Switzerland -- "Yuppi Du," a much-heralded rerelease of the 1975 Cannes competition title, will not screen at this year's Venice Film Festival for "technical reasons," organizers said Thursday.

The cult film from Italian rock icon Adriano Celentano had been re-edited and refurbished for the screenings.

There is no word yet on a replacement for "Yuppi Du" and it is unclear whether Celentano will still attend the festival to present the career achievement award to his longtime friend, acclaimed director Ermanno Olmi, as scheduled.

The Venice festival is set for Aug. 27-Sept. 6.
