Zac Posen to Revive the Charles James Brand (Report)
The New York-based designer has reportedly been tapped to consult for the fashion label.
After announcing its deal to revive the Charles James brand following last year's Met Gala theme, which was focused on the late American couturier, Harvey Weinstein's film studio, The Weinstein Company, has reportedly tapped Zac Posen to revive the fashion label. Page Six reports that TWC has hired the 34-year-old designer to consult.
TWC agreed to license, with an option to buy, the Charles James brand from the designer's estate back in May. Weinstein also named his wife, Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, and her brother, Marchesa CEO Edward Chapman, as the brand's creative consultants.
James was known for his well-tailored, sculptural gowns, so if the news were true, it would make sense for Posen to revitalize the brand given his own expertise in creating the most exquisite ball gowns for the runway (Naomi Campbell recently closed his New York Fashion Week show in a voluminous glittery gown) and red carpets (Rihanna, Viola Davis and Lena Dunham are among the famous faces to wear his designs).
"Reports that Zac Posen has been chosen to join the creative team in relaunching the Charles James fashion brand are not confirmed. We have no further information at this time," said a spokesperson for The Weinstein Company via email. "The Weinstein Company has long enjoyed our tremendous relationship with Zac, and we greatly look forward to continuing to work with him as a judge on Project Runway."
When reach for comment, a rep for Zac Posen had nothing additional to share.
