Zack Snyder set for ShoWest nod

'Watchmen' helmer named director of the year

Zack Snyder, helmer of Warner Bros.' upcoming "Watchmen," will be honored as director of the year at ShoWest 2009.

Snyder, who also directed last year's blockbuster "300," will be feted at an awards gala set to close ShoWest on April 2. The annual exhibition confab opens March 30 at the Bally's and Paris hotels in Las Vegas.

"Since breaking onto the scene in 2004 with the boxoffice hit 'Dawn of the Dead,' Zack Snyder has developed a bold, distinctive moviemaking style that has received critical acclaim and has generated boxoffice success around the world," ShoWest co-managing director Mitch Neuhauser said. "His continued dedication to providing audiences with groundbreaking films is unparalleled."

Snyder is the co-president of Cruel and Unusual Films, formed with his wife and producing partner Deborah Snyder. "Watchmen" unspools Friday.
