ZDF takes 50% of Bavarian TV prod'n unit

BERLIN -- ZDF Enterprises, the commercial sales arm of German public broadcaster ZDF, has acquired a 50% stake in Bavaria Fernsehnproduktion, one of Germany's largest TV production companies.

ZDF Enterprises and Bavaria valued the deal "in the single digit millions of euros."

Bavaria Fernsehnproduktion was spun off into a separate holding company earlier this year as part of a restructuring at parent company Bavaria Film.

The Munich-based production house is one of Germany's largest for serial drama. Its series include the telenovela "Storm of Love" and daily soap "Marienhof" for public broadcaster ARD and crime series "The Rosenheim Cops" for ZDF.

By the company's own estimate, Bavaria Fernsehnproduktion has a 3% share of the German TV production market and revenues of about €75 million ($102 million) annually.
