Eveningwear designer Zuhair Murad's fanbase also includes Jennifer Lopez, Rachel McAdams and Miley Cyrus, to name a few

Jennifer Lopez has become his de facto ambassador, Jennifer Aniston broke from black to wear his white-topped fit-and-flare dress to a Horrible Bosses 2 premiere, and Rachel McAdams and Beyoncé don his looks frequently. With his bead-and lace-embellished (but revealing) gowns, the 43-year-old Lebanon-based, Paris-showing eveningwear designer is hardly a household name but soon should be.

What is it about your gowns that draws celebrities?

I'm not afraid to take risks with fashion. My pieces are made to stand out, and what I love is the celebrity then embodies the statement the dress is making.

Quick, tell us about two.

I will always remember Miley Cyrus at the 2009 Oscars. Over 1,000 hours designing, hand-embroidering and tailoring was dedicated to this one dress, and she matched every second of its glory that night. The amount of congratulations, press and orders was insurmountable. And I love when Beyoncé wears Zuhair Murad. She likes to wear pieces that flatter her in all the right places.

What separates your red-carpet looks?

A spectacular look can take 300 to 1,000 hours of work from creative to production. Every piece is worked on tirelessly until we are satisfied. It's really all about the fit and balance.
