Zwigoff the 'Man' for New Line pic
EmptyTORONTO -- Terry Zwigoff has been tapped to build "The $40,000 Man" for New Line Cinema. Zwigoff will direct as well as rewrite the comedy with Dan Clowes, with whom he worked on "Ghost World."
Chris Bender and JC Spink of Benderspink are producing the comedy.
"Man" centers on a legendary astronaut who finds himself horribly injured in a crash and is rebuilt by the government to be a bionic man, but on a measly budget of only $40,000. Johnathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley wrote the original script.
Dave Neustadter and Cale Boyter are overseeing. Benderspink's Jake Weiner exec produces.
Zwigoff and Clowes garnered Oscar nominations for best adapted screenplay for their collaboration on 2001's "Ghost World," which Zwigoff directed. Zwigoff's other credits include the raunchy comedy "Bad Santa," the documentary "Crumb" and last year's "Art School Confidential."
Zwigoff and Clowes are repped by UTA. Zwigoff is additionally repped by attorney Warren Dern while Clowes is also repped by attorney Linda Lichter.
