Zynga Launches Studio Dedicated to Developing 'Star Wars' Mobile Game

Based out of Zynga's office in Austin, Texas, the studio will be led by Jeff Hickman and Matthew Hemby.

Mobile game developer Zynga revealed on Monday the establishment of a new game studio to develop the company's upcoming Star Wars game.

Based out of Zynga's office in Austin, Texas, the studio will partner with subsidiary software company NaturalMotion, as well as its own division BossAlien, on the project. Jeff Hickman and Matthew Hemby — execs from those two companies — will lead the studio.

"As a longtime Austinite, I know firsthand the immense level of talent and creativity that resides in this beautiful city," said Hickman, in a statement. "We believe that the Austin talent market is highly compatible with our mission of bringing AAA console visuals and deep, compelling gameplay to mobile platforms." Zynga will hire 25 employees including lead engineers, design directors and level designers, for the game.

Founded in 2007, the San Francisco-based company is known for franchises including Words With Friends, Empires & Puzzles and Merge Dragons, which are available in over 150 countries. Its latest game is the match-3 puzzle adventure Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells, launched in September.
