Santa Barbara Film Fest: John David Washington, Elsie Fisher Among 8 Tapped for Virtuoso Honor
Yalitza Aparicio (Roma), Sam Elliott (A Star Is Born), Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), Claire Foy (First Man), Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie (Leave No Trace), John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) and Steven Yeun (Burning) will each receive a Virtuoso Award at the 2019 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, organizers announced Tuesday.
The presentation, which will be moderated for the ninth time by Dave Karger, a Turner Classic Movies host, will take place Feb. 5 at Santa Barbara's historic Arlington Theatre as part of SBIFF's 34th edition, which is set to run Jan. 30-Feb. 9.
"From talented teenagers starring in their first feature films to veteran actors shining in career-best performances, this year’s Virtuosos prove that you can have a breakout moment at any point in your career," Karger said in a statement. "I'm so excited to join this phenomenal group of actors on stage in Santa Barbara."
Previous recipients of the Virtuoso Award include Timothee Chalamet, John Boyega, Mary J. Blige, Daniel Kaluuya, Kumail Nanjiani, Dev Patel, Mahershala Ali, Saoirse Ronan, Casey Affleck, Viola Davis, Elizabeth Banks, Paul Dano, Chadwick Boseman, Rosamund Pike and Jared Leto.
