Sophia Loren, the Italian screen legend who is among the last big-name survivors of Hollywood's Golden Age, will be this year's recipient of the L.A., Italia Legend Award, the Los Angeles, Italia Film, Fashion and Art Festival announced this week.

The 86-year-old is currently generating awards buzz for her comeback performance in her son Edoardo Ponti's film The Life Ahead, which is nominated for the best foreign language film Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards.

"Today, more than ever, Sophia warrants the recognition of the global movie industry, and we hope that the Academy will honor her incredible performance," the Italian-American actor Armand Assante, who will preside over this year's fest said in a statement.

The 16th annual — and first virtual — edition of the fest will run April 18-24. Pascal Vicedomini, the event's founder and producer, said, "This year the festival will be a digital version, but I can assure everyone but I can assure everyone that it will be as compelling and enthralling as in prior years."

The Loren tribute will open the fest's 'Italian Masters' section.
