Before any Grammys were doled out in Los Angeles on Feb. 15, the music business produced an epic awards-worthy competition — on the party circuit.
Interscope founder Jimmy Iovine tied the knot over Valentine's Day weekend with Liberty Ross, ending in an evening reception at David Geffen's Beverly Hills estate at the same time as Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy gala at the Beverly Hilton that celebrated Irving Azoff with the Salute to Industry Icons award. Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton managed to squeeze in both events, while the rest of the guests were split.
Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Brian Grazer, Paul McCartney, Rupert Murdoch and Stevie Nicks headed to Geffen's residence to hear performances by Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett and Mary J. Blige. Davis hosted John Legend, Jamie Foxx, Christina Aguilera, Caitlyn Jenner, LL Cool J, Tori Kelly and Carly Simon. Anyone wearing red at the Beverly Hilton (including Stefani, Meghan Trainor and Natasha Bedingfield) caused guests to do a double take, as that was the suggested color on Iovine's invites.
"It was really special," says one guest of the Iovine wedding, adding that in a party full of big stars, Bruce Springsteen was one everyone wanted to interact with. Is the rocker as cool as he seems? "Beyond," says the source.
