At last year's Oscars, Vice President Joe Biden took the stage to introduce Lady Gaga's performance of her nominated song Til It Happens to You. Nearly a year later, just as he and President Obama prepare to exit their respective posts, Biden will again be in Los Angeles on the night of a major awards show. However, he won't be showing up on the Golden Globes stage, instead he'll be the guest of honor at a rival event not far from the Beverly Hilton.

Mayor Eric Garcetti is hosting a reception to salute VP Biden in support of Garcetti's bid for reelection in 2017. The time? The event is scheduled for 5-7 p.m., just as the Globes are happening so Hollywood participation may be limited. Garcetti's office didn't return a call requesting comment.

But not so fast, says Gotham Group founder Ellen Goldsmith-Vein. The political activist, who is attending the event, tells THR that she expects the event to sell out. "I think people want to see Vice President Biden. Many people have asked if he will give his thoughts on the future and what's next," she says. "I have a lot of industry friends and colleagues who will attend this event, so the entertainment community will be out in force."

No word yet on whether the hosts will have the Globes telecast playing inside the bash.
