Teens can be a handful. Just ask Better Things co-creator and Emmy-nominated star Pamela Adlon. The mother of three daughters told THR about her fairly typical child-rearing challenges while promoting Louis C.K.'s FX comedy I Love You, Daddy at the Toronto Film Festival. "I fucked up until [they were] 8," joked Adlon about indulging her girls.

“You could have spent the last year with them every day at Disneyland for a year. And the next day, you don’t pick them up from school, and you get, 'You’re never there for me!’ They’re home from school, and you're like. 'How was your day?' They're like, 'Fine Mom. Can I just close the door?’ And I'm like, 'Anyone wanna come down?' That's the way they want to do it now.”

While the FX comedy is semi-autobiographical, I Love You, Daddy also is reminiscent of Adlon’s real life. The film — which was the toast of TIFF, scoring a distribution deal with The Orchard — centers on a 17-year-old girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) who embarks on a semi-scandalous romance, complete with paparazzi catching her every move (Adlon plays a surrogate mother to the rudderless teen). In real life, paparazzi have had a field day catching Adlon’s teen daughter Odessa’s hand-holding and tender moments with new beau Jaden Smith.
