Pierce Brosnan, Chris Martin Lobby L.A. County Board for Help After Malibu Fire
The usually staid Room 383 of the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration in downtown L.A. where the County Board of Supervisors meets weekly got a dose of star power Nov. 13.
“Hi, I’m Chris,” said Coldplay frontman Chris Martin who was addressing Supervisor Sheila Kuehl and her four colleagues during the public comments section of the Tuesday meeting, much of which was dedicated to discussing the Woolsey Fire. “There is sometimes an image of Malibu that there are more people like me (i.e. celebrities) than other people. And there’s a lot of people who need help from outside and from you guys essentially,” said Martin.
Longtime Malibu residents Pierce Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, whose home was damaged in the fire that destroyed more than 483 structures, also delivered pleas to the board for help in rebuilding the community. “The lives of many families and neighbors have been turned to ash,” said a visibly emotional Brosnan. “Madam Chair, members, we call on you this day — we beseech you to do everything in your power to save our community.”
